Are you graduating this year? Congratulations! As you prepare to embark on the next chapter of your journey, capturing the milestone of your college graduation is a momentous occasion. As a professional photographer who has photographed many graduation and senior portrait sessions, I'm here to guide you through the process and to make sure that your photos reflect the significance of this important occasion. Continue to read a few of the most common tips I share with my clients before their session:
1. Plan Ahead:
Schedule your graduation photo session well in advance to ensure availability and ample time for preparation. . I typically get booked 2-3 months in advance as the graduation season approaches.
2. Choose the Right Location:
Select a location that holds significance for you, whether it's your college campus, a favorite spot in the city, or a picturesque outdoor setting. The location sets the backdrop for your photos and adds a personal touch to your images.
3. Dress to Impress:
Choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident and comfortable. Consider incorporating your college cap and gown for traditional shots, as well as outfits that showcase your personality and individuality. You're always welcome to bring multiple outfits to my sessions.
4. Bring Props:
Consider bringing along props that represent your college experience, such as books, a diploma, or items related to your field of study. Or just a bottle of champaign to pop! These props add visual interest to your photos and help tell the story of your academic journey.
5. Be Yourself:
Let your personality shine through and allow yourself to have fun with the process. A lot of that also depends on your photographer. I am very good at making you comfortable in front of my camera and bringing out genuine smiles and expressions.
6. Involve Family, Friends, or Significant Others:
Consider including family, friends, or a significant other in your photo session to commemorate this milestone together. Group shots with loved ones add an extra layer of meaning to your graduation photos. If you are a couple, I will turn our session into a couples session in the end as a bonus, I don't charge any extra for bringing along more people but other photographers may be different. Be sure to check with your photographer if they charge extra per person.
7. Trust Your Photographer:
Lastly, trust your photographer to capture the essence of your graduation day. Communicate your vision and preferences, but also be open to their creative input and expertise. I'm always open and excited to hear what ideas my clients have in mind.
